The Lord Has Given

The words of this piece are taken from the end of the first chapter of Job, the righteous man who accepts his suffering with absolute faith in God's ultimate goodness and justice. There can be no greater tragedy in a parent's life than the loss of a child, and yet Job's response to the sudden death of all of his children is still to praise the Almighty. Job's steadfastness was ultimately rewarded and he was granted long life, great wealth, and a new and loving family.

We say these words upon learning that someone has passed from this life to the World of Truth, as symbolized by the person walking through the trees in this photograph. Also, ghosted back in the foreground you see a gravesite with a large rock placed on top. Leaving a rock on someone's grave basically means that someone has visited and cares for this departed soul. Photo was taken near the grave site of the famous rabbi - the Baba Sali in Netivot, Israel.

The Hebrew and English texts are interwoven, line by line.

The Lord has given and the Lord has taken away.

Blessed be the Name of the Lord.

Blessed be the Judge of Truth.
