Description

Candle Lighting Blessing for Shabbat & Yamim Tovim (Holidays)

The aura of holiness descends upon a household at the inauguration of Sabbath and holidays when the candles are lit and blessed, usually by the woman of the house. At least two are lit, and mystics explain that they represent the masculine and feminine aspects of God. A flame is a metaphor for the human soul, and also for the Torah itself. This piece includes the blessings for both Sabbath and holidays in Hebrew and English, along with a special prayer in English, asking God's additional blessings upon the members of the household.

Blessed are You, O Lord, our God, King of the Universe,
Who has made us holy by the observance of His mitzvot and commanded us
to light the Shabbat (and) Festival Lights.

MAY IT BE
acceptable before You, HaShem, my God and God of my fathers,
that for the sake of your great and Holy Name, as well as for the sake of
Your Holy Shabbat, that my entire family might merit abundance
and happiness, love and togetherness, peace and unity.

PLEASE SEND US
prosperity with ease and not with hardship.
Send us blessing, profit and success in all the things that we do.

MAY WE MERIT
that our children walk in the paths of Your Torah, with love and awe.
In the merit of these lights, may I merit children and grandchildren
who will be Bnei Torah even as it is written,
"For a mitzvah is a lamp and the Torah is Light."
